Mathura Tourist Attractions

Mathura is the land of Krishna and the lovers of the 'Makhan Chor' frequent the city to be a part of the divine experience. The holy town contains several auspicious sites where one can actually feel the presence of the divinity. Be it the Krishna Janmabhoomi, Vishram Ghat or Dwarkadish temple,  'Krishna' is all over there. The tourist attractions in Mathura  revolves around the various stages of the life of the Lord especially the growing up years and the few events of his adult life.

 

Vishram Ghat MathuraVishram Ghat
Vishram Ghat or the 'ghat of rest' located on the bank of Yamuna river is believed to be the sacred place where Lord Krishna after defeating his tyrant uncle Kansa in a duel rested for a while.

 

Kusum Sarovar
About half hour walk from the famous Radha Kunj,the Kusum Sarovar a 450 feet long and 60 feet deep tank having several stairs is another attractive site.

 

Dwarkadheesh Temple
Located near Bishranti Ghat,the new temple built in 1814 by Seth Gokuldass Parikh of Gwalior.The pompous temple has many bejewelled images of Dwarkadish,Mathuranath,Lakshminarayana and Murli Manohar. The temple sports a different look during the festive days of Holi and Janmasthami as every corner of temple is adorned beautifully.

 

Gita Temple or Bhagwad Bhawan
The huge and gorgeous temple was built in 1871 by a Gujrati trader named Gokuldas Parel.The entire Gita has been inscribedon its ceiling and walls.

 

Govt. Museum
The museum (1874) at Dampier Park is reputed for its archeological collection-sculptures,terracottas,bronze statues,coins and many other things from the ancient Hindu,Buddhist,Jain,Kusana and Gandhara period.The image of standing Buddha dates back to 5th century is unique.

 

Krishna Janmabhoomi 
Mathura is the birth place of Lord Krishna. It is located on the banks of river Yamuna. The holy town is globally famous for Krishna Janma Bhoomi Mandir or the temple of Shri Krishna. The temple is the birth of Bhagwan Krishna. Pilgrims visit in large number to get a glimpse of the stone slab, the exact place of the birth of the Lord.

There is the 'Garbha Griha' or the prison cell where Lord Krishna was born. The auspicious site become alive during Janmashthami as thousands of devotees visit to celebrate the birth of the Lord Krishna.
