Ghats of Mathura

Mathura is the birth place of Lord Krishna. Every inch of the place is sacred and offers spiritually elevating experience to the pilgrims.Krishna lives in Mathura and devotees feel His presence the moment they land up in the sacred place. There are plenty of sites in the Land of Krishna that are directly connected with the life of the Makhan Chor. The Ghats of Mathura are of immense significance.

 

The Ghats of Mathura are famous for splendid architectural beauty. They create cultural and ritual interest among the devotees. There are about 25 holy tirthas (bathing places or ghats) in Mathura. Visram Ghat is located in the middle. Towards the south of Visram Ghat there are 12 lovely ghats and 12 ghats are there in the north.

 

Ganesh Ghat, Dashashwamedh Ghat with its Neelakantheshwar Temple, Saraswati Sangam Ghat, Chakratirtha Ghat, Krishnaganga Ghat, Somatirth or Swami Ghat, Ghantagharan Ghat, Dharapattan Ghat, Vaikuntha Ghat, Navtirtha or Varahkshetra Ghat, Asikunda Ghat and Manikarnika Ghat are situated to the north of Vishram Ghat.

 

Pilgrims at times take bath in all 25 tirthas before undertaking Braja Mandala parikrama. The daily ritual puja in the morning at the Vishram Ghat fills the sense with purity. The places looks out of the world when the tiny oil lamps float on the sacred river spreading brightness and making one feel enlightened.
